Varsity gets Wake Up Call. JV Rolls.

Posted Thursday, September 04, 2008 by Coach Cavanagh
The varsity was given a huge wake up call yesterday by Ward Melville, last year's county number 1 seed. The girls just had issues with communicating, first touch, and lead through balls. The girls will get better as will I. I felt that we had some very good moments and we are going to look to build on these in our next scrimmage against North Babylon. North Babylon was the number 2 ranked team in the county last year. The only way our girls are going to know who they are is by playing the best. We now know what the best looks like and we have to make the necessary adjustments to be considered in that group. Congratulations to all the girls who saw their first varsity action yesterday including outstanding performances by Brittany Holloway and Joanne Murino, who scored her first varsity goal. See you at NB for a 4:15 start.

The JV continued to show how good they are. After a very strong week of practice, the girls were anxious to get at their first opponent. Well, Coach Sewell and the girls didn't disappoint. Very early into the scrimmage, Dawn Hickey put the T-Birds ahead to stay and it was smooth sailing from there. Congratulations to all the girls and I hope they continue their dominance today against North Babylon.

The JV2 team and Coach Shanks are preparing for their first contest against Smithtown East on the 12th of September. Many of the JV2 girls know how tough this game is going to be based on the summer league season. Smithtown East and Connetquot played in two overtime games, the second ending in a sudden death shootout. So keep working hard and focusing on the skills that are going to make you a better player in this program.
