Connetquot can't conquer arch rival

Posted Tuesday, September 23, 2008 by Coach Cavanagh
Well The Connetquot girls took the field at Commack with hopes of pushing their league record to 3-0. Commack came in already with a 3-0 league record with 21 goals for and 0 against. The girls felt ready and were loose for the big game, their third such big game in less than a week.

The game started fast and it seemed as if both teams wanted to push the ball down the field. Commack through the sides and Connetquot up the middle. Just nine minutes into the first half Commack converted on a corner kick, a team trademark and the score was 1-0 Cougars. Connetquot being very resilent answered right back with some perfect passes. Deanna Murino took the back pass off the kickoff and sent it outwide to a streaking Rachel Diver who was able to receive the ball before it went out and send a perfect cross to Danielle Murino who lofted it away from the Commack Keeper.  So the score was 1-1 and the T-Birds felt strong. Unfortunately for the girls the passes and the touches were not on. The Commack coaching staff devised an excellent gameplan and was able to hinder the powerful Connetquot offense.  The game ended witha final score of 3-1 and to be honest I feel it could have been worse. We are going to have to put this tough loss behind us and be ready for the next three league game against Central Islip, Walt Whitman, and Bay Shore. We will not take any team lightly and we will put ourselves in a position to win this league title.
